Shetland Heritage recreates the original characteristics of handspun 'wursit' (worsted spun) yarn used in old Fair Isle garments. Jamieson & Smith used Fair Isle garments preserved in the collection of the Shetland Museum and Archives to replicate this special yarn. The yarn has a beautiful smooth soft hand and, because it is worsted spun, the knitted fabric is quite strong and hard wearing and retains its elasticity through years of washing and wearing.
Heritage yarn bridges the gap between 2 Ply Lace and 2 Ply Jumper Weight. It can be knit with different needle sizes for a variety of drape and finish and is perfect for Fair Isle colourwork.
See our kit for Tirval's Toorie, a great project for experiencing the beauty of this yarn, and a perfect hat for cool weather wear.
