These little triangular markers have some surprisingly unique functions, especially when working with lace designs and fine yarn. In designs with yarn-overs the point of the triangle keeps the yarn-over in place. In contrast, a stitch marker that is flush with the needle can allow the yarn-over to slip out of place past the marker. In addition, the triangular shape makes it much easier to transfer the marker from needle to needle--getting the needle point into the corner of the triangle is much quicker than with a circular marker. And the black and white colours stand out against either light or dark yarns.
